A multi-unit home designed for family but prioritizing privacy

The brief

The Kehinsi House is a modern home designed to house 3 independent units, offering a refined approach to multi-family living that maintains a sense of individual sanctuary. The goal was to create a cohesive architectural statement that feels open and connected to its surroundings while ensuring each home operates as a private retreat.

The design is a direct response to the local climate. The most striking feature being the “perforated” brick facade which serves a vital functional purpose – this screen acts as a natural thermal buffer, filtering the intense West African sun and casting dynamic patterns of light across the interiors without sacrificing privacy. By allowing for continuous cross-ventilation, the building breathes naturally, reducing the reliance on artificial cooling.

Inside, each of the three units is designed to make the most of limited space and flow seamlessly into the outdoor environment. By using earthy, terracotta textures and focusing on the rhythmic play of light and shadow, we’ve created a dwelling that is both a stylish modern sanctuary and deeply respectful of its context.
